CERTIFICATE OF FITNESS FOR SPORTS ACTIVITIES

For all participants, including holders of a Cycling Sports License (as per Art. 5), it is MANDATORY to present a valid MEDICAL CERTIFICATE to the organization.

The required certificate depends on the type of route chosen and the kind of membership, as defined by the FCI (Italian Cycling Federation) regulations.

For participation in the 130 km and 80 km routes, which are competitive and physically demanding, the following requirements apply:

  • For athletes registered with FCI or a recognized sports promotion body: a certificate of fitness for competitive cycling as per Ministerial Decree of 18/02/82 (certificates for other sports such as triathlon, duathlon, athletics, etc. are NOT valid);
  • For Italian residents not registered with FCI or a sports promotion body: the same certificate of fitness for competitive cycling (DM 18/02/82);
  • For foreign residents: a certificate of fitness to participate in competitive cycling events issued by a physician in their country of residence (LINK).

For participation in the 45 km route, which is non-competitive and has lower physical demand, the following requirements apply:

  • For Italian athletes registered with FCI or a sports promotion body: a certificate of fitness for non-competitive cycling or a certificate for high cardiovascular effort sports (as per Ministerial Decree of 24/04/13) (LINK).
    For Italian athletes aged 70 or older (calendar age), a certificate of fitness for competitive cycling (DM 18/02/82) is mandatory. This is a special requirement requested from FCI.
  • For Italian residents not registered with FCI or a sports promotion body: a certificate of fitness for non-competitive cycling or for sports with high cardiovascular effort (DM 24/04/13) (LINK).
    For athletes aged 70 or older, the competitive cycling certificate is required. Special request to FCI.
  • For foreign residents: a certificate of fitness for non-competitive cycling or for sports with high cardiovascular effort or an equivalent, issued by a physician in their country of residence (LINK). Special request to FCI.
    Foreign athletes aged 70 or older (calendar age) must provide a certificate of fitness for competitive cycling (DM 18/02/82).
  • Minors, from 13 to 17 years old, may participate in the 45 km route. For minors, in addition to presenting a certificate of fitness for sports and a cycling membership card, an authorization from a parent or legal guardian must be provided. The authorization form is available at the following (LINK).

For the 130 km route (competitive, high physical demand), the requirements are as follows:

  • For athletes registered with FCI or a sports promotion body: certificate of fitness for competitive cycling (DM 18/02/82 – other sport types not valid);
  • For Italian residents not registered with FCI or sports promotion bodies: same certificate (DM 18/02/82);
  • For foreign residents: certificate for participation in competitive cycling events, issued by a physician in the athlete’s home country (LINK).
